Success Story

Renae is a foster parent of four children, three who are currently enrolled in CAPOLC‘s Head Start program. Two of the children are four year old twins and Renae has had them since their birth. The third child is five years old and has lived with her since July, 2009. She is employed full-time as a Librarian Assistant with the school district.

The family sought a safe learning environment for the children where their emotional needs would be met. CAPOLC Head Start staff was able to place the children in separate classrooms in the same center beginning in the fall of 2009. Staff has worked with Renae and has provided her with resources and support by attending meetings, following IEPs (Individual Education Plans), providing functional assessments and has on-going contact with the family. The children have extensive medical and behavior needs that are monitored daily through the Head Start education and medical content areas.

Renae provides a stable environment and has a schedule at home with rules and guidelines for the children to follow. Two of the children are involved in Tai-Kwon. Two of the children will be returning to Head Start in the fall of 2010 and one child will be transitioning into kindergarten. When asked why she chose Head Start, Renae empathically states, “…this is the environment where my children are safe, no abuse, no molestation…I trust the staff, they are always available and I just feel safe when I leave and go off to work.”

On any given day when at the CAPOLC Head Start Center, Renae greets everyone with a hearty smile.
